God at the Crossroads

These are some lessons I learned from the story of Moses and the burning bush, and shared in Penacook NH on Sunday.

Lesson 1: Do what you should in the place God has put you.
Lesson 2: Be alert – God may be trying to get your attention.
Lesson 3: Listen to God’s voice.
Lesson 4: Accept what God has to say.
Lesson 5: Be obedient.

I realize that this sounds like complete gibberish to anyone who doesn't have a relationship with God -- I mean, the very idea of being able to communicate on a personal level with God, Creater Of The Universe is pretty outrageous.

That's what makes it so awesome that it's true -- there is a beautiful comedy to our relationship with God.

Of course, things rarely flow as smoothly and logically as those five points. More often, it seems like I'm ignoring God, arguing with him, or complaining about what he wants me to do. That's what all of us do, even -- or perhaps especially -- the bigshots of the Bible.

It occurs often to me that God must be crazy to put up with all of our crap.

But he does. And he doesn't just put up with it, he loves us even while we're giving it to him. And he draws us towards himself, and farther away from the crap, until eventually we realize that we are the crazy ones for giving him all that crap and we really need to cut it out. And then, he makes our lives beautiful.

Love and peace,
